Activities of the Pedorthic Foundation rely on the generous support of individuals and companies, and all donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible. Donors may choose to provide general support for Foundation activities, allowing the Board to determine how best to allocate the money, or specific support, for a particular activity.

Directing Your Donation

Donors have the option of directing how their donations will be used. All gifts and donations received by the Foundation are placed in one of three categories:

  • General fund
  • Designated fund. Some designated funds are for one-time purposes, others are for on-going or repetitive giving, such as annual scholarships, awards or events.
  • Special fund. Those that don’t fit in above categories.

Currently, the Foundation’s designated funds include:
Aristotle Mirones Fund (which provides pedorthic education assistance)
Sidney Pols Fund (which provides pedorthic education assistance)
Dawn Janisse Fund (which recognizes individuals and companies for contributions to the profession).

General Funds

All funds received by the Pedorthic Foundation are placed in the General Fund unless they fit one of the other three categories listed below. General Funds are carefully allocated by the Foundation’s Board of Directors to one or more of the Foundation’s activities, which presently include scholarship and research grants, awards and other approved activities and projects of the Foundation.

Designated Fund for Onetime Use

Individuals, companies and other entities can donate money that is set aside as a designated fund for a onetime use such as a project, award, scholarship, research grant or publication. There is no expectation this particular cause, event or project will take place more than once. For details on how these funds are set up and administered by the Foundation click here. A one-time use donation can be named after someone if such an honor is appropriate.

Designated Fund for an Ongoing or Serial Project

Individuals, companies and other entities can donate money that is set aside as a designated fund for an ongoing or serial project or repetitive-use project, award, scholarship or research grant or other event or activity. Funds that meet the criteria can be named in honor of individuals etc. Examples of such designated funds including scholarships or awards given out multiple times over a series of years. Special Gifts or Donations

These are funds received or designated by the Board of Directors for special or restricted purposes that do not fit the definitions of the above funds.

Individual Giving

Individuals can support the work of the Pedorthic Foundation in a variety of ways, including through a gift to the General Fund, to an established fund, or through the development of a new designated fund. All donations are tax deductible.

Gift of Stock—A gift of stock, particularly an appreciated security, supports the activities of the Foundation, while offering a tax benefit to the donor. Please ask your financial advisor if this option is helpful to you and your holdings.

Memorial Donations—Donations to the Pedorthic Foundation can be named as the memorial for a loved one. The Foundation furnishes notices and sends thank-you cards to individuals who contribute to such memorials.

Planned Giving—Some donors choose to remember the Pedorthic Foundation in their wills or name the Pedorthic Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, IRA or other retirement plan. Please consult your financial advisor if you favor this form of donation.

A Time-Pledge Donation—is a commitment to donate X amount per year for X number of years. This is an excellent way to maximize individual support over a fixed period of time.

Company Giving

Companies can also support the work of the Pedorthic Foundation in a variety of ways. Company gifts can be made to the General Fund, to funds already established or to establish a new designated fund. All donations are tax deductible.

A Time-Pledge Donation—is a commitment to donate X amount per year for X number of years. This is an excellent way to maximize support over a fixed period of time.

Event Sponsorship—Sponsor a reception or other event for the Pedorthic Foundation. For example, the Foundation is exploring the development of an award for C.Ped of the Year. We would welcome assistance in making such an award or event a major happening on the pedorthic industry calendar. A company could sponsor the award and the event where it is be presented. If your company would like to launch an event, please contact the Foundation with your ideas.

Gift of Product/Services—Donation of product or services allow the Foundation to raise money through raffles at the Symposium or online. In addition to being a real help to Foundation and to practitioners, such donations provide wonderful publicity for the donor company and may also provide tax deductions.

Become a Sponsor—This opportunity to identify your company with the Foundation is in development and details will be announced in early 2010. Various level of sponsorships will be available and will offer great opportunities both to support the Foundation and to publicize your company.

Remember an Employee or Founder

Set up a Designated Fund—Set up designated fund in your company’s name. It can be for scholarships, research grants or special awards or another project of your choice. You can honor one of your employees or founders by setting up a designated fund.
